Harlington Library - Coderdojo

Details of the Charity:

The library is part of the LB Hillingdon’s public library service.  The library is unique in the borough as it provides the library service to Harlington Community  School in addition to the public.

As well as traditional library services the library is a community hub – offering events to the public and students.  We run Chairobics, Yoga, Code club, Reading groups, a dementia friendly coffee morning, and craft groups (Manga and crochet).

We  currently run a code club for 9-13 year olds, but we would like to start a coderdojo (www.coderdojo.com)

for young people 13-18.  So are looking for volunteers to help us with the coding side.

Details of the Volunteering Opportunity:

To help the next generation with code development

at Harlington Library – using resources from the coderdojo website and/or  any additional skills or resources that the candidate is aware of.

The dodo will be run on an informal friendly basis preferably on a Saturday –  the regularity will depend upon the hours that the candidate can commit to.

The club will be administered by a member of library staff.  The volunteer can concentrate on the coding and advise/ help library staff with any set up requirements.  The volunteers will need to attend an informal interview and a DBS check will be required.  The volunteer will need to register with the LBH but also with Coderdojo.
