Details of the Charity:

The Hillingdon Refugee Support Organisation is a registered voluntary organisation and limited company established in 1996 with charitable objects of welcoming and providing care and practical support to young unaccompanied asylum seekers and refugees specifically those aged 16-21 years in the London Borough of Hillingdon.

Our aims are broadly outlined in our mission statement which is as follows:

 To bring, hope, dignity, and empowerment to unaccompanied refugees and asylum seekers aged 16-21 in Hillingdon. To work with individuals regardless of background, providing a welcome reception and both care and practical support in order to enhance their quality of life.

We offer a range of structured, educational and recreational activities to ensure Unaccompanied Asylum Seekers gain confidence, develop new skills and friendships in a non-judgmental environment. All activities provided are designed to build confidence, provide safe opportunities for sharing and development to enable their integration into British society.

Details of the Volunteering Opportunity:

Due to the recent COVID- 19 crisis, we are in the process of adapting the way we deliver services from face-to-face to digital online support.

 We have a Web Developer/ Designer who is building an Interactive website with suitable online material, with a learning Management System (LMS ). It will be a more modern resource guide that can help us extend our reach to even more young people in need in a very sustainable way

 We are looking for a Volunteer Web Developer to work with us and support us and our Web Designer/Developer in building our site bhump.org.uk

As a Volunteer Web Developer you will provide support to the overall design, layout and content of our website. It’s a part-creative, part technical role and you’ll be involved with the both the technical and graphical aspects of a website. How the site works and how it looks – and supporting us in making sure it performs its functions well. As such you’ll be closely involved with the maintenance and update of the site, and in the preparing of quality online content.

Skills Required:

  • DBS check required (provided free of charge by Brunel Volunteers)
  • Software programming and graphics
  • Adaptability 
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Skills using WordPress is essential

  • All hours contribute towards your Brunel Volunteers Award, which leads to an invitation to the Brunel Volunteers Awards Ceremony in May.
