Kids Out - Translator

Details of the Charity:

KidsOut is a children’s charity that is based in Bedfordshire, but works nationally. At KidsOut we believe that all children deserve fun and happiness in their lives and work every day to make it a reality. Whether they have escaped domestic violence or live daily in poverty, KidsOut provides disadvantaged children across the UK with exciting memories to cherish. Through giving hope and building confidence in young people, KidsOut is shaping a better tomorrow.

Details of the Volunteering Opportunity:

This role offers an exciting opportunity for individuals to use their language skills to support children around the world who do not speak English as their first language.

The children’s charity, KidsOut, has a website named ‘World Stories’ that is a free, electronic library of stories from around the world. World Stories was created to help children with English as a second language and it includes the English and native translations of over 100 stories and counting.

We currently have numerous volunteers that translate stories into their original language or English. However, we are hoping to further grow our service and collection so are looking for new volunteers to join our team. This is something that can be done at your own leisure, wherever you are based.

You can also visit our website at www.worldstories.co.uk, to get an idea of the service.

It is believed that for 1 in 7 children in the UK English is not their first language, so it would be amazing if we could work together to translate stories so that children can access stories they are learning in the classroom in their own language and improve their literacy skills.
