POD Children's Charity- Social Media and Web Management

Details of the Charity:

Pod Children’s Charity is a nationwide charity which organises entertainment for children in hospital. Pod helps to alleviate the trauma of a hospital stay by sowing the seeds of fun, laughter and feeling better. Pod’s magicians and balloon artists, bring joy to the   lives of children in hospital with monthly shows in over 150 hospitals and   hospices throughout the UK. From one monthly visit to nine – depending on the size of the hospital.

Hospitals employ play specialists whose job it is to make a child’s stay in hospital as pleasant as possible but there is limited funding for non-medical activities; and this is where Pod helps. Pod’s team of professional entertainers provide a 40-minute show or bedside entertainment and make sure they include children who are too poorly to be moved or who are in isolation. They also visit Outpatients and clinics so that everyone has something to smile about. 

Pod’s income is from grants, donations and related gift aid. They have donations from large companies who fund year on year, and from applications they make for large amounts, down to   local charities and individual fundraisers online. All admin and salaries are paid for by the League of Friends of The Pod Charitable Trust, a separate  charity. 

Details of the Volunteering Opportunity:

  • Home-based
  • 10 hours per week (negotiable)

We would like a highly self-motivated person able to do research into potential local donors. This includes companies and organisations and to make contact with them by e-mail or post or telephone accordingly and/or to organise fundraising activities.

We will take the person into a hospital nearby in order for them to witness a magician in action and understand what we do. They will then be given a list of the hospitals which require funding as well as talking them through how to approach potential donors and giving them materials to make use of such as photos and good quotes about entertainers etc.

We will discuss possible fundraising activities. We will be contactable at all times if they have any queries or ideas they want to discuss.

Skills Required:

  • Good knowledge of social media management and web content preparation
  • Good command of written English
  • Self-motivated
  • Able to use own initiative
