Royal Mencap Society - Virgin Money London Marathon 2020 Cheer Squad Volunteer

Details of the Charity:

Mencap is the leading voice of learning disability. We want to see a world where people with a learning disability are valued equally, listened to and included. We offer a lot of supportive services to people with learning disabilities, through volunteers and paid roles. Many of the events we run are aimed at fundraising and increasing awareness and support for Mencap and the people we support, whilst also helping to increase and allow for people with a learning disability to be more included and integrated into society. We offer a range of fantastic, different opportunities with varying degrees of commitment, and our volunteers help to make them a success. You can take part for a few hours at a one day event or get involved in some of our more regular opportunities, any and all help is appreciated!

Details of the Volunteering Opportunity:

The Virgin Money London Marathon, on Sunday October 4th 2020, is the biggest one-day fundraising event in the world where over 40,000 people take to the streets of London and run 26.2 miles. We here at Mencap are so excited that we are Official Charity Partner of the London Marathon for 2020, so our cheer points will be bigger and better than ever before! Most of the runners will be fundraising for charity, and Mencap will have nearly 600 runners fundraising over £2000 each to change the lives of people with a learning disability.

As a volunteer in the cheering squad you’ll be part of an amazing atmosphere -  join us at one of our cheer points to give all of our runners a big cheer to keep them going as they make it closer to the finish line! You'll be part of a diverse and inclusive team alongside volunteers with and without a learning disability, representing Mencap and helping to promote our work and raise awareness for people with learning disabilities at this iconic London event. We help people with a learning disability live the life they choose, and do the things they love. Through this partnership with the 2020 Virgin Money London Marathon we will be using sport and physical activity to bring young people of all backgrounds and abilities together. In partnership with schools across the country we will deliver All Move, an inclusive project for children with and without a learning disability, aged 11-16.
