The Charterhouse - Community Engagement Volunteer



Details of the Charity:

The Charterhouse is a former Carthusian monastery in London, located between Barbican and Smithfield Market, and to the north of what is now Charterhouse Square. Since the dissolution of the monasteries in the 16th century the site has served as a private mansion, a boys’ school and an almshouse, which it remains to this day.

 Our mission is to provide housing, care and support for older people in need, while sharing our heritage and preserving it for future generations.

Details of the Volunteering Opportunity:

Supporting the Community Engagement Officer and CE freelancers in hosting & delivering Community Engagement events and workshops.

The focus for this work is 18-30’s and older people in the Borough of Islington, particularly harder to reach groups who are not currently accessing The Charterhouse. There will be opportunity to contribute ideas to the programme. 

Skills Required:

  • Enthusiasm working with a wide range of community groups (specifically 18-30’s & older people)
  • Good verbal English skills. Ideally, we would like people who are confident in speaking to small groups
  • Ability to use own initiative
  • Previous experience is not necessary but an interest in the community sector and heritage & the arts is desirable
