Kith & Kids - Charity Shop Autism Support Volunteer

Details of the Charity:

Kith & Kids’ aim is to empower families who have a son or daughter with a learning disability or autism (many also have a physical or sensory disability) to overcome their social exclusion. Founded over 50 years ago by just two sets of parents, we have grown and adapted over the years to the changing needs of families whilst maintaining the quality of our services.

Throughout the year we provide a variety of volunteer-supported projects and services, offering opportunities to learn new skills, make friends, go out and have fun. The person with a disability being the focus of our activities, we design individual needs-based projects and services that provide him or her with much-needed social interaction and a sense of “normal” life that most of us take for granted.

Details of the Volunteering Opportunity:

Join us at our boutique charity shop to support our service users as they build their work experience & social skills. You’ll be supporting our members with all aspects of working in a shop to build well rounded skills within the work place.

Volunteers have a fantastic opportunity to help shape our members work experience placements within the shop.  You will support our members will all aspects of working in a charity shop, including using the till and customer service and spend time with them to review the skills they have learnt at the end of each shift.

What you'll do

At the shop you will be paired with one of our members with a learning disability or autism. You'll support and encourage them to complete the job/role they have been given for that specific day and encourage them to practice their social skills by interacting with the public in a polite and friendly manner.

You will also encourage them to work as part of a team and engage socially with staff and volunteers present in the shop.  You will build their confidence and encourage them to take on new challenges.
