Royal Voluntary Service - Steward Volunteer (COVID-19 Vaccinations)

Details of the Charity:

Royal Voluntary Service is one of the largest volunteering organisations in Great Britain, providing vital, responsive services which support public health, social care and wellbeing. Its staff and thousands of volunteers support people in need, with the aim of building resilience in local communities. In March 2020, at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown, NHS England commissioned Royal Voluntary Service to recruit NHS Volunteer Responders to shield the NHS and provide practical help to the 2.5 million most at-risk people who were shielding at home. The programme was extended to support the vaccination drive. To date, NHS Volunteer Responders have delivered over 2 million tasks.

Details of the Volunteering Opportunity:

This role involves guiding people on site to make sure the vaccination process runs smoothly and efficiently as possible. In this non-clinical role, volunteers may be helping guide patients through the vaccination site, managing queues, marshalling and identifying those who need additional help.

You will be part of a team at a vaccination site, assisting other volunteers and NHS teams to deliver the vaccination programme. A support team is on hand to provide you with a full briefing and any help or guidance you might need.

The role will be in your local area and hours are flexible depending on your availability.

This role will require volunteers to commit to at least 1 shift at a vaccination site each week when shifts are available. Shifts are up to 4 hours long.

You will be provided with a High Vis jacket and expenses will be covered.

Skills Required:

To join, we need you to:

  • Live in England and be over the age of 18.
  • Use a smartphone. This is because tasks will be sent directly to your phone through the GoodSAM app. Don’t worry if you are not familiar with this technology, there is plenty of help available.

  • No experience or qualifications are required
