Bookmark Reading Charity - Reading Volunteer

Details of the Charity:

Bookmark Reading is a charity helping children develop the reading skills they need to succeed in school as this can hugely affect their life chances. The organisation link vetted and trained volunteers to children who need extra support to achieve the expected standard.

Details of the Volunteering Opportunity:

In this role, you will be supporting and promoting literacy and reading skills among children aged 5 to 9 helping them to develop their skills whether it is through one-to-one sessions or in a small group. As a Reading Volunteer, you will gain skills such as communication, leadership, problem-solving, and time management.

Typical duties include:

  • Reading aloud to the children
  • Encouraging the children in shared reading activities
  • Providing one-to-one attention and support to children tailored to individuals' needs and abilities
  • Monitoring and tracking children’s reading progress to find their areas of improvements

Please note, the Brunel Volunteers team would like you to commit to a minimum of 2-3 months.
