HACS (Hillingdon Autistic Care & Support) is local charity based in the London Borough of Hillingdon for children and young people on the autism spectrum. Through provision of high quality Family Support, Training, Recreation Services and Employability services, the aim of the charity is to minimise disability and maximise ability of autistic individuals. We strive to improve quality of life for autistic children, adults and their families through continued efforts to raise awareness of autism, campaigning for appropriate support at local and national level and by promoting inclusion in universal services. The service offers services to autistic children, young people and adults. HACS also support parents, carers, family members and professionals supporting people on the autism spectrum
Details of the Volunteering Opportunity:
We are currently recruiting reliable, willing, and enthusiastic individuals to volunteer alongside our children and young people who have a diagnosis of Autism in our short break services.
Responsibilities of this role will include:
- Maintain a safe, creative and stimulating environment for young people
- Consulting young people about their needs/wishes and encouraging their participation in setting up and running activities
- Contribute to a programme of activities designed to meet the developmental needs of young people with autism
- Provide an accessible programme to all users, using appropriate educational and communicative strategies
Volunteering shifts:
Monthly/bi-monthly Sat (9.00am-3.30pm)
Weekly Wednesdays (3.45pm-6.45pm)
Weekly Thursdays (6.45pm – 9.45pm)
Skills Required:
Previous experience working with autistic individuals is desirable, however we welcome volunteer applications from people who would like to learn more about supporting autistic people through our specialist provision.
