Attend - Befriending Volunteer

Details of the Charity:

Details of the Volunteering Opportunity:

To support up to 2 clients who access at least one of Attends client-based services:

  • Brain Injury
  • Dementia
  • Stroke
  • Care Homes
  • Mental Health


  • To arrange face to face supportive meetings with the client within the community
  • To maintain regular and supportive telephone or online contact with allocated clients
  • To identify problems or issues being experienced by the client and pass on relevant information to the Project Lead
  • To organise trips to local places such as cafes and parks
  • To provide support with accessing and attending local groups
  • To help with shopping
  • To signpost to other services befriend people living in care homes
  • To sit with housebound people to allow their carer some time out
  • To be with people who are dying at home or within the care home environment

Skills Required:

  • Be friendly and helpful with an interest in local community
  • Have good interpersonal skills
  • Have the ability to listen and respond appropriately
  • Possesses the ability to chat
  • Exhibit patience and understanding with the ability to convey empathy
  • Have the ability to identify and respond to varying emotions
  • Have the ability to respond to clients without making assumptions or judgements
  • Have the ability to maintain boundaries
  • Have the ability to remain calm in stressful situations
  • Demonstrate personal stability and robustness with self-awareness and insight into own emotional needs
  • Be reliable, flexible and punctual
