I am a Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) in International Business at Brunel University London. Prior to my appointment at Brunel University London I held a position at Vienna University of Economics and Business. My main research interests evolve around national cultural diversity, acculturation dynamics of highly-qualified migrants and organizational change.
In my work on national cultural diversity I examine the activities, actions, and behaviours of multicultural team members that create the link between different aspect of organizational context such as organizational diversity climate or organizational strategy and team outcomes. With my co-authors Cristina Gibson and Markus Pudelko I have developed the concept of diversity climate in multinational companies, delineating important manifestations that pertain to national cultural diversity.
The purpose of my research on acculturation dynamics of highly-qualified migrants is to develop a better understanding of the challenges and coping strategies of these individuals, as well as shed light on how organizations facilitate their integration. Another objective is to investigate how characteristics of the broader institutional and cultural context, such as national immigration policies, public support systems, and societal values may affect migrants’ integration outcomes, either directly or by shaping organizational norms and practices. These research objectives are pursued through collaboration with research groups in Europe, Australia, and Canada. The project is led by Guenter Stahl (Vienna University of Economics & Business) and myself. Among our country co-investigators are Chris Brewster (University of Reading), Ingmar Björkman (Aalto University), Jean-Luc Cerdin (ESSEC Business School), Eric Davoine (Université de Fribourg), Wolfgang Mayrhofer (Vienna University of Economics and Business), Sebastian Reiche (IESE Business School), Lena Zander (Uppsala University), Jelena Zikic (University of Toronto), Dan Caprar (University of Sydney), Mila Lazarova (Simon Fraser University), and Torsten Kühlmann (Bayreuth University).
My work on organizational change examines how team learning processes facilitate organizational change implementation. It follows an inductive approach, posing broad research questions that enable the development of novel insights.
My research has been published in journals such as Academy of Management Journal, International Journal of Human Resource Management, Schmalenbach Business Review, and International Journal of Cross-cultural Management. In addition, my research has been awarded the Athena Swan Research Award, British Academy of Management Award (2013), Academy of Management Robert H. Schaffer Award (2012), and the Stephan Koren Award (2008) for the best dissertation completed at the Vienna University of Economics and Business. I have also been the Academy of Management International Management Best Paper Finalist in 2009, 2010, 2012 and 2013.
I am also member of the Editorial Review Board at Academy of Management Review.
