Celena is in the third year of her part time PhD degree studies under the supervision of Dr Richard Godfrey, Dr Daniel Rhind and Dr Misia Gervis. She is researching occupational stress amongst football referees, a project which is supported by the Football Association (FA) of England. As part of her research Celena has developed a conflict management and resolution unit which is being piloted in Surrey in early 2012. If the pilot is successful, the FA will incorporate this unit into its national basic course for referees and launch it through a series of national workshops. Celena combines her PhD studies with her role as a Lecturer on a range of Sport and Public Service qualifications in a Further Education institution.
In 2011, Celena was a guest speaker at four FA Regional Conferences and also presented to the British Sociological Association Postgraduate Forum.
Celena has also worked within professional football on a part time basis for the last 10 years either as a sports therapist or coach. Prior to her current role as a Sports Therapist for the Chelsea FC academy, she worked at the Youth Academy for Watford FC. Celena has worked with Chelsea FC for over two years alongside coaches, sport scientists and other medical practitioners.
