Dr Danah Abdulla
Senior Lecturer in Communication Design
Danah is an educator, designer and researcher interested in new narratives and practices in design that push the disciplinary boundaries and definitions of the discipline. She is Senior Lecturer in Communication Design at Brunel where she leads on Level 1 and 2 modules. In addition, she is a founding member of the Decolonising Design research group alongside seven other researchers, a Research Associate at the Design Against Crime Research Centre at Central Saint Martins, Visiting Professor at the Vilnius Academy of Art, and the founder, creative director and editor of Kalimat Magazine, an independent, non-profit publication about Arab thought and culture.
Prior to her role at Brunel, she was a Lecturer on the BA (Hons) Design Management and Cultures course at the London College of Communication, University of the Arts. She obtained her PhD, titled Design Otherwise: Towards a Locally-Centric Design Education Curricula in Jordan, in the Design department at Goldsmiths, University of London.
Danah's research is particularly focused on decolonising design, possibilities of design education, design culture(s) with a focus on the Arab region, the politics of design, publishing, and critical views of social design practices.
