Dr Konstantinos Alexandris Polomarkakis joined Brunel University London as a Lecturer in Socio-Legal Studies in June 2019. Prior to joining Brunel, he was a Lecturer in Law at the University of Lincoln. His research interests lie mainly in the area of socio-legal studies, focusing on how policy-making, law enforcement and judicial decision-making may affect welfare, broadly conceived. Ongoing projects look at the conceptualisation of European social policy by the European Court of Justice during the crisis, and the underpinning rationales of laws, policies and practices enacted for advancing societal well-being, particularly in the labour law and criminal justice fields. Furthermore, Konstantinos has a keen interest in exploring the development of the social dimension of the European Union.
Konstantinos's doctoral studies at the University of Bristol Law School were fully-funded by a departmental scholarship. Whilst in Bristol he taught on the Criminal and European Union Law modules. In addition to his PhD from the University of Bristol, he holds an LLB from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, an LLM in European and Comparative Law from the Catholic University of Portugal, where he was a Millennium BCP Scholar, and an MSc in European and Comparative Social Policy from the London School of Economics (LSE). Konstantinos is qualified as attorney-at-law in Greece, being a non-practising member of the Athens Bar. In the past, he has worked at Black Sea Trade and Development Bank, an international financial institution, and at the Institute of Economic Policy and Public Governance of the American-Hellenic Chamber of Commerce.
