Hi, my name is Shasheen Payoe and I am a Doctoral Researcher in the Department of Life Sciences, the division of Biosciences. My ongoing research falls into the ever-expanding field of Pharmacology and in particular, the field of Nanomedicine. The general aim of my research is to determine the biological safety of a diverse set of synthetic nanoscale objects, commonly termed nanoparticles. I aim to determine nanoparticle biological safety for their potential clinical use in nanoparticle-based drug delivery systems. To assess nanoparticle biosafety, I utilise both in vitro and in vivo biological research methodologies, such as cell culture and model organisms. In addition, I utilise in silico based research methods, to identify novel candidate biomarkers and therapeutic targets for bone-related malignancies. These biological targets may subsequently be targeted by nanoparticle-based drug delivery systems.
