Michael Ferenczi is leading the Admissions selection process in the New Medical School, and also recruits academic and clinician educators. He is excited about creating a Medical School that will form doctors with exceptional attributes, skills and knowledge to serve the people of West London and beyond. He joined Brunel Medical School in November 2020 when he returned to the UK after eight years in Singapore where he contributed to the development of the new Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine at Nanyang Technological University, in partnership with Imperial College London.
Michael trained in physiology at University College London and developed a life-long interest in the study of the mechanism of muscle contraction. He developed new techniques to study the structure and biochemistry of muscle fibres at millisecond time resolution. He spent three years at the University of Pennsylvania before taking up a research position at the MRC National Institute for Medical Research in London. He was appointed Professor of Physiological Sciences at Imperial College London in 2001 where he developed new research approaches to study cardiac muscle and where he took on leadership responsibilities in medical education, prior to moving to Singapore in 2012.
