Welcome to my personal profile !

I am a Senior Lecturer in Civil Engineering responsible to lead teaching and learning at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Brunel University. Prior to this employment, I was a senior lecturer, and postgraduate programme leader at the Nottingham Trent University and was responsible to lead research in construction engineering and infrastructures. My career began in 1999, working as a research assistant in Construction Robotics Unit at City University and then research associate at NTEC at Nottingham university. Following the completion of my doctoral research in 2004, I spent five years in the industry. During the first three years (2003-2006), I worked as a senior pavement engineer at Jacobs UK Ltd  and two years at TRL limited as a senior highway engineer. During the time at industry, I coordinated pavement design team for several high-profile design and rehabilitation projects for national and international clients, contributed to revision of design standard, and research projects for DfT, Highways England, local authorities and private consortia. In 2005, I completed my professional review to become a Chartered Engineer.

 Teaching Experience

  • Developed five new MSc and four undergraduate modules on structural engineering, pavement engineering, asphalt material, construction and sustainability and health monitoring and rehabilitation of surface structures and infrastructure management
  • High student satisfaction with average student evaluation above 90%
  • Nominated for student lead teaching award as an Inspirational Tutor/Supervisor for three successive years.
  • Developed two state-of-the-art labs from scratch; pavement engineering laboratory and concrete protection & durability laboratory
  • Played a key role in increasing recruitment and retention of student in civil engineering programmes
  • Enhanced student learning experience by bringing industrial sponsorship to final year projects, adding field trips and residential field course within the scope of the teaching.

  • Supervised 5 PhD to completion, 30 MSc dissertations
  • Developed a strong, nationally and internationally recognised research programme in Pavement Engineering and Concrete Protection & Durability, which did not exist prior to my joining at Brunel
