META-GRID: cliMate rEsilience assessmenT and Adaptation of the European power GRID
Funder: Horizon EuropeDuration: June 2026 - May 2028
Europe’s power grid faces a growing threat from climate-driven extreme weather, with storms and floods already responsible for a third of all outages. This problem is compounded by ageing infrastructure and network expansion. The tools available to predict how and when grid components will fail – and how quickly they can recover – remain underdeveloped compared to models for other critical infrastructure. With the support of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions programme, the META-GRID project aims to transform how grid vulnerability is assessed and managed across Europe. Combining historical failure records, climate projections and advanced numerical modelling, it will deliver practical decision-support tools to help operators and policymakers invest wisely in a more weather-resilient energy system.
