Summary

Thesis description:

The interaction between landslide and earthquake waves to understand how the velocity of the sliding mass, the period of the earthquake-generated waves and the angle of the slope can influence the wave amplitudes over time will be investigated. Physical-hydraulic experiments will carry out in the wave flume at the Brunel University London.

I will seek to achieve: (i) comprehensive physical experiments in a laboratory setting, and (ii) numerical modeling of the project with appropriate software, such as OpenFOAM (https://www.openfoam.com). The empirical study will allow finding other probable effective parameters on the generated waves as well as applying more realistic cases. Numerical modeling will help with the development of a validated numerical model which will be the basis for further sensitivity and scenario-based studies.
