Summary
Simon works on the Police Education Qualification Framework PEQF courses in Criminal Justice Studies and has done so since 2022.
He retired from Thames Valley Police after 30 years service and worked in an unusual variety of jobs from police diver and hazardous search specialist to more typical roles such as Neighourhood Policing which is his passion and where he established Neighbourhood and Business Action Groups. He also set up the Reading Community Court which was a Restorative Justice Scheme which won the National Crimebeat award. He worked on roles from Constable to Inspector and was the Police Search Advisor who was jointly responsible for the Eton Dorney Olympic venue in 2012 where he worked with the military and specialist Home Office units. He has experience of proactive policing and also ran the Foundation Training Department where he was responsible for the training of Police officers, Police Constable Support Officers, custody assistants, Special Constables, Detention Officers and Staff Investigators.
He was an Associate Lecturer at Southampton Solent University Criminology Department from 2015 and is now the Module Lead for Response and Community Policing units. In his spare time he is an athletics coach and cycles up whichever mountains he can still manage.
Qualifications
Simon has a BA in Politics and Economics and MA from Oxford University and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
Responsibility
He is Module Lead for the Response and Community Policing on the DHEP programme and the Crime Community and Response Policing on the PCDA route. He also leads on New Business and is the Resource Manager for the Team.
