Dr Xin Zhang is a UKRI Future Leaders Fellow, an EPSRC New Investigator Awardee, in Digital and Electrical Power Systems. His research experience covers power system planning and operation with renewable energy, smart grids, cyber-physical power system modelling and co-simulation, and transport electrification with grid interaction. He is currently supervising 7 PhD students (as principal supervisor) and researching on several projects (as PI) funded by the prestigious UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship (£1.8m), EPSRC New Investigator Award (£481k), EPSRC Supergen Energy Networks Hub, Department for Transport (T-TRIG) and Power Industry. Previously Dr Xin Zhang worked at Cranfield University as a Senior Lecturer (2019-2021, tenured).

Dr Zhang worked at National Grid UK for 8 years before returning academia (2019), Chartered Engineer since 2017, where he undertook power system planning and real-time operation, mainly in the UK Electricity National Control Centre. He has also initiated and managed several National Grid’s network innovation projects with UK universities.
