Careers and your future in History

Brunel History graduates offer strong transferable employment skills that include research, communication, report writing and presenting.

Our graduates enter diverse careers in politics, the civil service, GCHQ and military intelligence. 90% of our students are in work or further study six months after graduation.

As you study, you’ll develop your skills in recovering and interpreting historical evidence, formulating arguments and developing your own historical perspectives which are ideal skills for work in museums, as archivists and in film and television research.

You’ll gain valuable work experience by opting for a sandwich degree to complement your academic studies. Our students take up industrial placements in settings including the Environmental Audit Committee, House of Commons, Access Sport, Directorate of Gender Affairs, HM Treasury and the Competition Commission.

Some work in the public and private sectors, the NHS, banks, business, consultancy, law, NGOs and the media. Others are researchers, teachers and librarians.

Our membership of the Erasmus exchange scheme gives you the opportunity to spend part of your degree at the National University of Ireland (Maynooth) or the University of Cyprus, with the opportunity to build valuable contacts.
