Classical models of quantum information systems
Applications are invited for our EPSRC funded Doctoral Training Partnership (DTP) PhD studentship for the project “Classical models of quantum information systems” starting 1 April 2022. Successful applicants will receive an annual stipend (bursary) of £17,609, including inner London weighting, plus payment of their full-time tuition fees for a period of 36-months (3 years).
Applicants must be classified as a home (UK) tuition fee paying student to be eligible for this studentship.
The Project
This exciting research project is focused on developing models that mimic the behaviour of complex quantum systems that arise in the context of quantum information processing, and understand their complexity. Progress in this question has significance for our fundamental understanding of quantum matter as well as the drive towards demonstrating quantum computational supremacy over classical computational methods.
Please contact Dr Shashank Virmani at shashank.virmani@brunel.ac.uk to arrange an informal discussion about the project.
Eligibility
Skills and Experience
Applicants should have a background in mathematics, physics, or quantum computing, with some exposure to quantum physics or quantum information theory, and an enthusiasm for working on fundamental problems in the field. Applicants should be motivated to work on fundamental problems in the field, and have a strong sense of curiosity. You should be able to work independently as well as in a team, collaborate with others and communicate effectively.
Academic Entry Criteria
You will have or be expected to receive a 1st class or 2:1 honours degree in Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science or a similar discipline. A masters degree is not required but may be an advantage.
