Managing collaborative logistics

Logistics and transportation are important part in supply chain management. Collaboration among different organizations involved in logistics and transportation is the key to achieve the economies of scale necessary to target profitability and sustainability targets. The focus of the PhD programme is on finding mechanisms that foster and facilitate collaboration among players in logistics and transportation (in various modes). Such mechanisms should describe how collaborative organizations or market intermediaries should plan their operations, and how should the participating organisations be charged or compensated. A crucial aspect in studying such collaboration mechanisms is the behaviour of participants and the ability to foster a collegial and trustworthy relationship. The appropriate mechanisms should provide clear benefits for all stakeholders to motivate their participation. Given the multi-faceted objectives of the proposed research, a mixture of methods both quantitative (optimisation, game theory, statistics), as well as qualitative needs to be employed.
