Digital games

Students are invited to apply for PhD projects on digital games/interactive media. Relevant areas and disciplinary backgrounds may include Game Studies, Film Theory, Performance Studies, Literary Theory, Sociology, Political Science, Critical Theory, Information Technology, Communication Studies, Philosophy and Design.

Possible topics of investigation include but are not limited to:

General research interests:

  • digital games aesthetics -

  • film theory and new media -
  • art and digital games -
  • digital games and queer theory -
  • politics and ideology in digital games

Current research projects:

  • video game agency 
  • pandemic games 
  • digital games and environmentalism

You will be required to provide a research proposal accompanied by a preliminary literature review and bibliography. The proposal should present a key research question, including some reflections on methodology and scope.

The literature review should contextualise your topic within defined fields of study, providing some understanding of the existing scholarship.
