Tell us about your career journey since you graduated…

I am currently living in the UK. I started to apply for several jobs from January 2019, however I got rejected many times. In February 2019 I started working as an Accounting Intern, however I still kept looking for a job. I went to many job interviews, but none of them were successful. In August 2019 I received an offer and I started working as an Accountant in September 2019 before submitting my dissertation.

What does a typical day at work involve for you?

Preparing accounts for companies and sole traders. Giving advice to clients in regard to their financial affairs. Helping people to understand accounting language.

What’s been the highlight of your career so far?

Becoming an Accountant who handles several clients.

How would you say Brunel helped you to get where you are today?

The course prepared me very well. Moreover, the Careers team [in the Professional Development Centre] gave me plenty of advice on how to find a job.

Why did you choose to study at Brunel and why would you recommend Brunel to others?

I chose Brunel because it had an interesting course in Finance and Accounting which was also accredited by CIMA and ACCA. It looked like the perfect course for someone who was looking for a future in accounting. The location on the outskirts of London was perfect.

What is your best memory of studying here?

Meeting up with my friends in the student kitchens in our flats. We shared laughs and had great food together!

If you could give one piece of advice to new students, what would that be?

Study hard and have fun. Life at university is just a short period in which you can really enjoy life, explore your passions, learn new things and find amazing friends.

What would be your top tip or advice for new graduates as they begin their career journey?

Many things will be hard at first and you might feel like you can't do it. However, you can't lose focus - you have to go on. After some time you'll realise that you can do it.
