Interpreting emotion by analysing expression in pre-rendered human eyes

The human eye is possibly our most important facial feature for displaying fundamental emotional cues.

Yet it's realisation into a digital entity has been overlooked for years. Critic's reactions to state-of-the-art examples of computer generated (CG) humans prove that we have still not conquered the Uncanny Valley and in most visualisations, the rendering of the eyes is noted as amongst the primary conspicuous flaw. Therefore why are these CG human eyes failing to generate expression to viewers and contributing to negative reactions? Have we reached a technical limit with current tools? Is it our evolutionary ability to read human eye's expression? 

This study was conducted through the creation of an artefact which will investigate if believable CG pre-rendered human eyes, which convey emotion to a viewer can be created by an individual with limited access to hardware and software technology for a postgraduate MSc project.
