Different Routes to University: Clearing and Students with BTECs

If you are coming to Brunel and have already achieved BTEC qualifications (or have mixed A levels and BTECs) it might be worth bearing in mind that there will be some differences between your education up until now and University

Here are a few things you might want to consider:

  • There may well be exams!
  • You will have to learn independently (see section on independent learning)
  • The quantity of work will be higher than you are used to
  • You may not have the access to lecturers all the times

If you are a student who has come through the clearing system, firstly welcome to Brunel! Secondly, it is important to understand that if everything has been a bit of a rush and you are concerned about coming to the University that’s absolutely ok (it’s also ok if you aren’t!) There are loads of websites available providing hints and tips but here are a few that we would suggest:

  • If you’ve got the time, visit the campus, on your own or with someone else
  • There may be accommodation still available so speak to the accommodation office to see what is available and what your options are
  • University support services are available so if you have any questions  or concerns
  • If you can attend HeadStart (week before Welcome Week) it will help you to acclimatise to Brunel
