Citizens Advice Hillingdon is a charity providing free, independent, impartial, and confidential advice to residents of Hillingdon about welfare benefits, debt, housing, employment, and consumer issues. The organisation also conducts social policy work by raising issues that affect clients adversely at the local and national levels to affect change in law and practice.

Details of the Volunteering Opportunity:

In this role, you will be providing a high-quality, effective, and efficient service to members of the public following the aims and principles of Citizens Advice and the requirements of its Membership Scheme. As a Gateway Assessor, you will gain valuable skills in client assessment, communication, problem-solving, and knowledge of social services.

Typical duties include:

  • Engaging in empathetic listening and inquiry to determine the nature of clients’ issues via telephone
  • Extracting crucial details about the problem, such as deadlines, significant dates, and any need for immediate advice or action
  • Directing clients to the most suitable resources, adhering to established guidelines
  • Documenting the information gathered during gateway assessment conversations within the Bureau’s system

Please note, this organisation requires a minimum 12-month commitment of 1 day per week.
