Energy Solutions Ltd
Roger Kelly of Energy Solutions Ltd approached Brunel University on the recommendation of his colleague. He knew he wanted to gain access to technology that his company did not already have. He knew there were European directives on the horizon that would pose challenges for which he wasn’t prepared. But he also knew that a Knowledge Transfer Partnership project would provide a part funded framework that would enable him to do both these things.
Dr Maria Kolokotroni, as an expert in buildings and energy, was the ideal academic match to provide the technology and expertise that Roger was looking for. The two-year project is designed to develop a range of energy audit, consultancy, energy management and training services for commercial, public sector and industrial clients to enable compliance with new European Directives. This would provide an expansion to the company’s current business operations, and add latest technology to their skill base. This is done by employing a suitably qualified graduate, on the equivalent of a graduate training scheme, usually afforded only by large companies. Yet, KTP enables even very small companies to gain funding from a Government scheme with a proven track record for delivering project objectives.
The Associate on Roger’s project is James Boampong. James has an MSc in Sustainable Energy Technologies and Management from Brunel University. James was selected in open recruitment and works mainly at the company.
Although still in the early stages of the project, Roger is pleased with the progress so far: "We have experience and success in our core areas of domestic and private premises, but we need to develop expertise so that we can move into the public and industrial sectors and this is what the KTP project will enable us to do."
Roger said: "We need to expand our business into new service areas, and the KTP project will help develop the expertise to do this."
