For academic year 2012/13, the Teaching Agency (TA)Training Bursary scheme is based on subject and degree class. UK/EU students studying at Brunel University may be eligible for a bursary as indicated below:
If you are a Home/EU postgraduate undertaking a PG Cert leading to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), you will receive a non-taxable TA Training Bursary whilst undertaking initial teacher training (ITT) (as long as you do not already hold QTS and are not employed as a teacher in a school/college at the start of your course), as follows:
- English, ICT, Physical Education, Science (Biology), Primary - £9,000 with a first class honours degree, £5,000 with a 2:1 honours degree;
- Mathematics, Science (Chemistry), Science (Physics), Science (Physics with Mathematics), - £20,000 with a first class honours degree, £15,000 with a 2:1 honours degree, £12,000 with a 2:2 honours degree.
Please note, prospective Science with Physics trainees with a 2:1 or first may be eligible to apply for an Institute of Physics scholarship worth £20,000. However, trainees who are awarded this scholarship will not be eligible to also receive the Department for Education bursary.
Physics trainees who are not awarded the scholarship will continue in 2012/13 to be eligible for the standard £20,000 bursary for those with a first, and £15,000 bursary for those with a 2:1.
How do I apply for the TA training bursary?
The TA training bursary is administered by Brunel on behalf of the TA. Visit the TA website for more information. You will usually apply for the bursary as part of your course induction.
