Layouts for stationery

There are firm rules concerning layouts for stationery (ie letterheads, compliments slips and business cards), and the Design Unit at Brunel University Press will adhere to these.

Individual Schools and Centres may have slightly different requirements such as the number of staff they wish to include or the need for additional telephone or fax details.

The examples show variations to the basic layouts that can accommodate such requirements.

Other minor adjustments can be negotiated with the Design Unit or the Communications Team, but the basic layout is mandatory.

New letterhead layout celebrating the Queen’s Anniversary Prize

Following the award of the Queen’s Anniversary Prize, the Vice-Chancellor approved a new printed letterhead to be supplied as standard for all new orders placed with the Print Room, until further notice.

If you have a specific and significant operational issue which would make it difficult for your team to use the new letterhead, please inform Andrew Kershaw at andrew.kershaw@brunel.ac.uk and he will confirm whether you can continue to use the standard design. Costs for letterhead orders will remain unchanged, and departmental names, secondary logos, etc can be added in the usual way.

To make a letterhead order, please contact email Brunel University Press at print-room@brunel.ac.uk

Brunel blue

‘Brunel blue’ is compulsory for all Brunel stationery. The Pantone reference for this colour is 287 and it is readily available in the University Press for all printing requirements.

Paper stock

The paper used for all Brunel stationery is a brilliant white wove stock (a smooth finish that runs through printers easily and matches most continuation paper). It is watermarked with the Brunel University Crest (at no additional cost).

This gives assurance of the official provenance of the University’s letterhead.

Letterhead sent via email

It is not usually appropriate for a document bearing the Brunel letterhead to be sent as an email attachment. Headed paper is watermarked with the Brunel University Crest, and its consistent layout and quality give it credibility as an official document.

Where possible, please include the Brunel logo and any other necessary details in your email signature rather than sending an attachment.

In rare cases when it is necessary to send a document bearing the Brunel letterhead by email, for example for a student's job reference, please note that letterhead should never be sent in the form of a Word document as this could then be edited and sent on by an external party, posing a potential reputational risk. The document template can be requested from the Communications Team, and it should then be saved as a PDF before dispatch by email.

Please note that html email templates are also available, with standard and School-specific options. These can be used for group mailouts for student recruitment and marketing purposes.
