How to cope with long commuting

Posted: August 05 2022

Many Brunel students commute to and from campus and make use of the many transport links Brunel has - from numerous buses to Uxbridge Underground Station, which is served by the Metropolitan and Piccadilly lines. Since Brunel is on the edge of London and attracts students from all across London, many face a long commute. Here are some tips on how to cope with long commuting:

  1.  Plan your journey: always plan your journey ahead of time to accommodate for unexpected circumstances, including heavy traffic and delays. Additionally, strikes can affect your journey or even stop you from getting to campus - which sometimes happens. To get around this, make sure you check for any delays or strikes in advance.

  2. Leave earlier than you need to: this relates to the above point. Just in case something unexpected happens en route, leave earlier than you need to do. That way, you can adjust your journey if needed.

  3. Use long commuting as an opportunity to read: Find a way to make the most of the long commute, this can be anything from reading a book or text from your course, to studying and preparing for your next lecture - it can be anything that can pass the time.
