Tell us about your educational and/or career journey since you graduated from Brunel.

Since graduation, I took a gap year and then decided very quickly that admin duties were not for me! I went back to University and completed my PGCE and have never looked back. My career went from being a class teacher, PE Lead, KS2 (English, Computing and Partnerships Lead), Deputy Headteacher and now Headteacher. During this time, I continued to study at various times and still am- as we say learning never stops. I completed my MA in Education and more recently my NPQH and NPQEL!

What does a typical day at work involve for you?

Managing and leading staff and pupils. Making sure the organisation is stable, secure and ready for the day-to-day challenges that come our way. I love my job! I choose to start work at 7:00am and finish at approximately 5:00pm (some days earlier). Well-being and self-care are a huge part of my journey!

What’s been the highlight of your career journey so far?

Supporting and developing others in their career paths and helping them to achieve their ambitions. I love this part of my job! Watching people grow and thrive.

How would you say your Brunel experience has helped you to get where you are today?

Having a sports science degree and the mentality of sports and not giving up has been a huge part! I competed during my time at Brunel for the badminton team in the BUSA league and to this day am still competing - my life!

Why did you choose to study at Brunel and why would you recommend Brunel to others?

A well reputable and recognised university. Great to read the lecturer's studies.

What is your best memory of studying here?

Competing against other universities. Loved the experimental and research side of physiology!

If you could give one piece of advice to current Brunel students, what would that be?

Chase your dreams - the subject you have chosen to study will map your future and career.

What would be your top tip or key advice for new graduates as they begin their career journey after leaving Brunel?

Take what comes at you… if you enjoy it, you will make it work!
