Tell us about your career journey since you graduated…
I was a Civil Servant for 8 years, a contract digital project manager, and ran my own business called DrinksBot. The DrinksBot provided a one-stop shop for drinks events in offices; from getting drinks to waiter service and entertainment delivered to your Office. I am currently working on marketing a food and drinks festival that supports innovative food and drinks producers to grow their businesses. In addition to that I am Head of Innovation at Wikivillage; a property start-up working to build more affordable housing for hard working Londoners.
What does an average day at work involve for you?
Thinking positively about the day ahead, checking my emails, going through my to-do list and helping people understand more about the food and drink conference I’m working to promote
What’s been the highlight of your career so far?
There have been many. Here are my top three: (1) Seeing Obama accept the nomination for his party at the DNC in Denver in 2008, (2) Being a project manager delivering the award winning Government web service allowing you to register to vote online and (3) Founding DrinksBot; an inclusive and innovative robotics and drinks company.
How would you say Brunel helped you to get where you are today?
I did the sandwich degree and the work placement experience really helped with getting me started in the employment market.
Why did you choose to study at Brunel and why would you recommend Brunel to others?
I choose Brunel because it was in London, the Political Science degree had the right course composition for me and they were happy to support my particular study needs. I had very good support from the Assistive Technology and Study Skills teams to give me the support that I needed.
What is your best memory of studying here?
I enjoyed being a Widening Participation Ambassador and speaking to young people from different backgrounds and letting them know that university was possible for them.
What would be your top tip or advice for new graduates as they begin their career journey?
Don't fear mistakes. You can change your mind - you are never stuck. Keep learning, even once you leave university.
