Tell us about your educational and/or career journey since you graduated from Brunel?
Manage a global accountancy network with presence in over 70 countries. Running an expansionary practice in Malaysia with 16 offices in the country. Launched my personal book on 3 December 2024. Of late, started the Brunel Chapter in Malaysia with fellow Brunelians.
What does a typical day at work involve for you?
Other than managing the global network, we have our McM Cares programme where we carry out of CSR activities since 2010. I also give technical talks and write technical articles for publications.
What’s been the highlight of your career journey so far?
Being recognised by the public at large for the many CSR projects where to-date, we have contributed over RM2.5 million, equivalent to £425,000. Following the launch of my personal book which is being sold at bookstores too for RM99 each, all sale proceeds from the books are donated to various charities.
How would you say your Brunel experience has helped you to get where you are today?
The experience gained from the practical MBA course was invaluable. It has helped me to see a very much bigger picture unlike the accountancy profession which somewhere restricts the “foresight” to look beyond. The MBA course provided me experiences like helping my fellow students in their assignments and also provided me with the opportunity of giving accounting talks during my time in Brunel University.
Why did you choose to study at Brunel and why would you recommend Brunel to others?
I was offered to do the MBA course in other universities prior to my final selection of Brunel because the university is known for the great knowledgeable lecturers and is affiliated to Henley Management College in Oxon. It has a reputation of being a practical MBA course rather than just an academic study course. We were given opportunities to study overseas projects and also visited organisations in Europe which other universities do not provide such opportunities.
What is your best memory of studying here?
Great environment! Great lecturers! Great comrades of fellow course mates from all over the world. Learned lots of new cultures from people worldwide!
If you could give one piece of advice to current Brunel students, what would that be?
You’re in one of the best universities in the UK. Not only must you focus on your studies but do find time to have a balanced lifestyle by understanding other cultures and learn from each other.
What would be your top tip or key advice for new graduates as they begin their career journey after leaving Brunel?
Think outside the box. Avoid being a nerdy graduate. Make use of the invaluable knowledge you have acquired during your course studies and expand on this knowledge in your career progression. Always keep in touch with fellow Brunelians!
