Tell us about your career journey since you graduated…

I joined Smiths Group as soon as I finished at Brunel, going into their Procurement department. Since then I have transferred to work in Finance, and studied to become a Management Accountant.

What does a typical day at work involve for you?

I run several reports to help stakeholders analyse spend. I also work on purchase orders, budgets and forecasting to help keep spend on track.

What’s been the highlight of your career so far?

Building an excel model that adequately allocates spend.

How would you say Brunel helped you to get where you are today?

Confidence with numbers, a willingness to learn and discovering my love of excel!

Why did you choose to study at Brunel and why would you recommend Brunel to others?

I loved the campus and the passion from the lecturers. I am passionate about mathematics and believe Brunel is a university that allows that kind of passion to grow.

What is your best memory of studying here?

My dissertation. There’s lots of other non-academic ones, but completing my dissertation was so fulfilling, enjoyable and rewarding.

If you could give one piece of advice to new students, what would that be?

Remember why you chose your subject; hold on to that and use your passion for the topics to push yourself further. You can do it!

What would be your top tip or advice for new graduates as they begin their career journey?

Be open to different jobs; I started in one function but quickly moved to another. Your first job doesn’t define your career.
