Why did you choose to study English at Brunel?
I chose to study English at Brunel University for two reasons: Brunel is my local university, and I was very attracted to the specific content of the course, in particular the focus on Shakespeare and playwrights of the Renaissance.
What are your favouite aspects of the course?
Every module I have taken has struck a perfect balance between thoroughly enjoyable, intellectually fascinating, and challenging. As for writing, I am coming to the end of my first term in my second year. In this term alone I have been able to write on J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings, Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein and the poetry of William Wordsworth. I will also be writing a review of Terry Pratchett/Neil Gaiman’s Comedy-Fantasy novel Good Omens, which happens to be one of my favourite books. This course does require a generous amount of reading, which luckily, I love!
I am also employed by the university as a student ambassador, which allows me to talk to prospective students and their parents about student life and the course. I hope to go on to do a PGCE at Brunel after graduating, with an aspiration of someday becoming an English teacher.
What are your hobbies on campus?
In my spare time, I participate in a number of campus activities and societies, I tutor GCSE and A-level English/ History, and I have an amateur passion for voice acting and animation. If I could offer any advice to prospective students, it would be that time management is the most important thing in the world.
