Tell us about your educational and/or career journey since you graduated from Brunel?
After graduating with a First Class degree in Computer Science and completing my placement year at Spirax Sarco, I was offered a permanent role on a global transformation programme. I was able to bypass the traditional graduate scheme route and secure a skilled worker visa, all while stepping into a strategic analyst role that aligned with my long-term goals. This transition was the result of careful planning, persistence, and the support I received during my time at Brunel.
What does a typical day at work involve for you?
Every day brings new challenges. I work with global teams across time zones to support governance activities, manage risks, and ensure the smooth delivery of large-scale digital programmes. I help track progress across multiple ERP systems such as CPQ, FSM, CRM, and D365, ensuring that each project aligns with business priorities. It’s a dynamic environment that constantly pushes me to think critically and grow professionally.
What’s been the highlight of your career journey so far?
The biggest highlight has been navigating the competitive graduate job market and securing visa sponsorship in a challenging immigration landscape. Being entrusted with responsibilities beyond the typical graduate level and contributing meaningfully to a flagship global programme so early in my career has been incredibly fulfilling.
How would you say your Brunel experience has helped you to get where you are today?
Brunel’s placement year was a game-changer. It provided the professional exposure I needed to understand how businesses operate and what employers value. The career services team offered guidance at key moments, while the academic environment encouraged me to think practically and solve real-world problems. That combination of theory and practice gave me a strong edge.
Why did you choose to study at Brunel and why would you recommend Brunel to others?
I chose Brunel because of its strong reputation for career-focused learning and its commitment to helping students gain work experience before graduating. The university’s emphasis on placements and its close ties to industry make it a perfect choice for students who want to enter the workforce confidently and well-prepared. I would recommend Brunel to anyone looking to gain more than just a degree.
What is your best memory of studying here?
My best memory is working on collaborative projects with students from diverse backgrounds. The sense of community, support from academic staff, and opportunities to grow outside the classroom made my time at Brunel truly special. I felt challenged, encouraged, and inspired every step of the way.
If you could give one piece of advice to current Brunel students, what would that be?
Make your placement year count. Treat it as the foundation of your career and use it to build not only experience but also confidence, credibility, and a clear vision of where you want to go. Stay curious, take initiative, and don’t be afraid to aim high.
What would be your top tip or key advice for new graduates as they begin their career journey after leaving Brunel?
Stay resilient and trust your journey. Things may not always go exactly as planned, but opportunities will come if you stay prepared and proactive. Focus on long-term growth, embrace learning, and never underestimate the power of consistency. With the right mindset, your first step can become a launchpad for everything that follows.
