Tell us about your educational and/or career journey since you graduated from Brunel?

After graduating from Brunel University, I decided to take some time off to deepen my understanding of psychology, especially in the area of counseling. I developed a strong interest in addiction studies and therapy, which motivated me to enhance my skills further. During this period, I worked as an Assistant Psychologist at Apollo Hospitals in Hyderabad, gaining valuable hands-on experience. Concurrently, I was applying for my second Master’s degree in the United States to continue advancing my expertise and career in the field of psychology.

What does a typical day at work involve for you?

A typical day at work involves supporting clients through one-on-one counseling sessions, conducting assessments, and assisting in developing treatment plans, especially for addiction recovery. I collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to monitor progress and provide emotional support. I also spend time researching new therapeutic approaches and enhancing my skills to better serve clients. This hands-on experience helps me grow as a counselor and deepen my understanding of addiction psychology. Would you like it shorter or more detailed?

What’s been the highlight of your career journey so far?

The highlight of my career so far was interning at We Can Recover CIC in Liverpool, where I gained real-time experience working directly with clients struggling with addiction. This hands-on opportunity strengthened my skills in addiction counseling and reinforced my commitment to supporting individuals on their recovery journeys.

I chose to study at Brunel because of its strong psychology program and emphasis on combining theory with practical experience. The university’s supportive environment and diverse community made it an ideal place for personal and academic growth. Brunel encourages independent thinking and offers excellent resources for research and career development. I would recommend Brunel to others seeking a well-rounded education in psychology that prepares them for real-world challenges while fostering independence and cultural adaptability.

What is your best memory of studying here?

My best memory of studying at Brunel is the invaluable support and guidance I received from my professor, Dr. Ray Norbury. Dr. Norbury’s encouragement during challenging times helped me stay motivated and confident. This mentorship, combined with the vibrant campus life and diverse student community, made my time at Brunel truly enriching and memorable.

If you could give one piece of advice to current Brunel students, what would that be?

My advice to current Brunel students would be to embrace every opportunity for practical learning and networking. Don’t hesitate to seek support from professors and peers, as these connections can be invaluable for your growth. Also, be open to stepping out of your comfort zone—whether it’s living independently, exploring new cultures, or tackling challenging coursework. These experiences build resilience and shape you both personally and professionally, preparing you well for your future career.

What would be your top tip or key advice for new graduates as they begin their career journey after leaving Brunel?
