Brunel Hydrogen response to DfT Consultation on HGV Emissions

HGVs

Brunel Hydrogen, Brunel University of London responded to the DfT and Office for Zero Emission Vehicles Consultation on a New Heavy Goods Vehicle CO₂ Emissions Regulatory Framework for the United Kingdom.

This consultation was open from 6th January until 17th March 2026.

The Brunel Hydrogen Response suggested that the UK should align with EU standards on zero emissions from HGVs in order to ensure that hydrogen and other zero carbon fuels could be used in existing engines as part of the net zero transition. They highlight that a stricter or uncertain value for zero emissions could limit R & D in this field, limit the technologies available to HGVs, and as such make the transition less smooth.
