Why study Education at Brunel?

The Department of Education at Brunel University London aspires for its staff and students to use education in all its forms to be a force for social good and to understand and utilise its potential as a transformative life experience. Our location is ideal in that we are situated in an ethnically and culturally rich urban and suburban community, which we seek to serve and engage with through our portfolio of education activities.

We offer a full range of taught provision including a BA and MA in Education and Primary and Secondary PGCE Initial Teacher Education (ITE). Our Primary and Secondary ITE programmes are accredited by the DfE. We also offer exciting full- and part-time opportunities for doctoral researchers on our Doctorate in Education (EdDoc) and through our PhD programme, where you will be supervised by Education staff who are expert in their field and active in research and scholarly activity.

Our portfolio of provision is informed by a concern for education in, through and about informal and formal educational contexts. We engage our students with matters of theory, policy and practice in the field and our staff and students make a significant contribution to policy development and debate in education. We are committed to principles of social justice and equality that permeate all aspects of our teaching and research. Our staff research and scholarly activity profiles include work in the fields of philosophy, professional education, educational identities and narratives, equality and diversity, transgressive educational spaces, inclusion and Special Educational Needs and Disabilities, higher education policy and practice, literature and the humanities, social mobility, STEM education and interculturality for diversity and global learning.

When you study with us you will have the opportunity to experience situated learning in a wide variety of educational settings, which opens up new and exciting potential career pathways in education you may have never considered before. We are genuinely interested in where you come from and what you become and are committed to your ongoing development and future employment in all areas of education. Many of our Education alumni stay in touch and have continued to work with us, creating a strong sense of extended community around the Department. We offer opportunities for academic and professional development for those already working in the field of education through CPD, knowledge exchange activities and outreach.

Our location, close to the centre of London but also within easy reach of Heathrow airport, allows us to continue to develop invaluable local, regional and national educational links and also the opportunity to extend our relationships into important global educational networks. Our student and staff body are representative of the international profile of the Department and University community, and we see this diversity as a rich resource to enhance your studies with us.

We welcome you to our Department and to our community of scholars.
