Dr Colin Luoma has celebrated the publication of his new book, Cultural Rights and Wrongs in Transitional Justice, published by Oxford University Press. The book launch took place on 11 December at Brunel Law School, marking an important scholarly contribution to the field of transitional justice.

The event featured expert commentary from Professor Alexandra Xanthaki, United Nations Special Rapporteur in the field of cultural rights, and Professor Joshua Castellino, Executive Dean of the College of Arts, Law and Social Sciences at Brunel University of London. Their contributions highlighted the book’s significance in addressing the long-standing marginalisation of cultural rights within transitional justice theory and practice.

Cultural Rights and Wrongs in Transitional Justice offers the first in-depth analysis of how cultural rights intersect with processes of justice in post-conflict and post-authoritarian contexts. Challenging dominant approaches that have historically overlooked cultural harms, the book re-theorises key concepts in transitional justice and argues for more inclusive, flexible frameworks capable of addressing large-scale cultural rights violations, including those affecting Indigenous and local communities.

The publication represents a significant milestone for Dr Luoma and underscores Brunel Law School’s ongoing commitment to internationally impactful research in human rights and transitional justice.
