Brunel Sport – Reopening Plans

As the COVID-19 situation improves, we are making plans to reopen our sports facilities in the coming weeks and months. The information below sets out the timeline for reopening along with the anticipated detail about how many people can participate (full sport specific detail has not been released by the Government at the time of writing).

We will continue to implement all the COVID safety measures we introduced following the first national lockdown including enhanced cleaning, capacity restrictions and pre-booking for all activities.

Whilst we are excited to welcome you back, we appreciate that there may be some frustration that we are not able to make all of our facilities available from 12th April but our primary concern is, and will continue to be, the wellbeing of our students, staff and visitors.

Unfortunately, we are unable to give a reopening date for the Indoor Athletics Centre at this stage. The challenges of ensuring a COVID secure environment in such a substantial and unique space are extensive. We will provide a further update in due course.  In the meantime, IAC users will be able to access both the Sports Centre Gym and the Outdoor Athletics facilities.

We are grateful for your continued understanding and look forward to welcoming you back to our sports facilities soon.

Updated 19th December

Following the latest Government tier 4 announcment today, all our sports facilities will be closed from midnight tonight.

Updates will follow when we have further information about reopening.

Stay Safe

Kind regards,

Brunel Sport

Dear Member,

Following the latest Government announcement, we’re delighted to inform you that Brunel Gym will re-open from 7am Wednesday 2nd December 2020 with normal opening hours for this week.

Bookings for gym sessions will be available via our Brunel Sport app by tomorrow evening.

We continue to do everything we can to ensure the facilities remain safe and COVID-secure; you can read more about this on our website.

Information regarding your payments

Direct debit Members: You have access to the facilities from Wednesday but we will not charge you until February 2021. This is to compensate for the payment you made in November that couldn’t be cancelled, and our reduced opening hours later in December (more on that below). If you have any concerns about your Direct Debit or wish to extend your freeze beyond January, please email DFC directly at info@debitfinance.co.uk

Staff Payroll Members: You have access to the facilities from Wednesday but we will not deduct from your payslips until February 2021

Annual Members: The month you lost due to November lockdown will be added to the end of your current membership, along with an extra month to compensate for reduced opening hours later in December (see below).

Online Classes: These remain free and will continue until December 18th. Book a place via the Brunel Sport app to receive Zoom meeting details.

Opening hours remain as normal for this week and will reduce in the lead up to Christmas, in line with University term end. For the most up-to-date details please follow our social media @brunel_sport or keep an eye on our website.

Brunel’s other sports facilities will also be open for bookings however the local COVID tier level means some restrictions on use will be in place. We will put any updates on our social media and website but you can also email sports.centre@brunel.ac.uk

We look forward to seeing you back in the gym soon!

Updated 5th November

Following the Government announcement on Saturday, we can confirm that we have closed all of Brunel’s sports facilities from 5th November until the start of December.

Your Payments in Lockdown

-We will be immediately freezing all Direct Debit payments and will do the same for ongoing months should the closure continue. Due to the timing of the announcement, we were unable to stop November payments going through, but we will compensate for this when we re-open by offering a free month to our Direct Debit members.
-There is no need to take further action on your part, however, if you do wish to cancel your membership please email info@debitfinance.co.uk
-Annual members will get an extension added to their current membership.
-Payroll members will also have their deductions paused during lockdown.
