Comunications and Media and Sociology welcome two fully funded ACU Commonwealth Blue Charter Fellows who have just arrived at Brunel to work with Dr Lesley Henderson for three months on plastic pollution projects with the aim of securing culturally appropriate solutions.
One fellowship is for Dr Emeka Dumbili (Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Nigeria) to explore perceptions of plastic pollution amongst young adults in Nigeria. He will address culturally specific issues such as the high usage of plastic water sachets.
Another fellowship is for Professor Rupika Rajakaruna (Department of Zoology, University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka) which will further extend our knowledge concerning perceptions of plastic pollution amongst sea turtle farmers. She will address the reliance on these illegal sea turtle farms for economic reasons.
