Shot just weeks before the genocide began, The Phoenix of Gaza is an award-winning documentary that presents rare footage of a vibrant city and its resilient people. Although maintained as a prison under a brutal occupation, Gaza was already the Riviera of the Middle East. What began as a documentary celebrating life has since become an archive capturing memories of an obliterated land. The Phoenix of Gaza bears witness to Gaza’s beauty, endurance, and a spirit that refuses to be extinguished. The film-maker is Yousef Alhelou, a Brunel alumni and is hosted by Brunel University’s College of Law, Arts and Social Sciences.
The screening will be followed by Q&A.
