Reimagining Food Security: Community, Connection and Change Join us on World Food Day, Friday 16 October, for Brunel’s 9th Annual One-Day Conference on Social Work and the Body. This year, we turn our attention to food security and ask what it might mean to move beyond responding to hunger towards creating communities in which everyone has access to adequate, nutritious and culturally appropriate food with dignity. Across a day of talks, shared food, reflection and exploration, we will consider food poverty and the possibility of a food bank-free future; the right to food and the experiences of families living with food insecurity; and the potential of universities to become places where food growing, nature, learning and community come together. The day will also include a communal lunch, followed by a mindfulness walk imagining how Brunel’s campus might become a community fruit, vegetable and art garden. We’ll end by hearing about the University of Sussex’s campus forest garden and what growing together can teach us about soil, society and soul. Come along to listen, share, eat, walk, reflect and imagine what we might grow together.
