Brunelians unite in solidarity with Ukraine

Ukraine vigil 920x540

Students and staff gathered on campus today in a show of solidarity for Ukrainian colleagues and their families back home.

Leading the gathering, Brunel’s Reverend Dr Piotr Ashwin-Siejkowski said: “The reason why we are here today is to say publicly that we want to stand with people from Ukraine. We want to stand with them and show them that actually, they are part of our family.”

Revd Ashwin-Siejkowski, who is originally from Poland, told the vigil that whilst recent events could feel overwhelming, it was important for the Brunel community to show that it is inclusive and together.

“This current experience is showing us all that each life is precious – we are not talking about numbers. Wars and conflict are never, ever abstract,” he said.

Brunel has four multi-faith Chaplains, who offer support five days a week at the Meeting House.
