Brunel Law School has received the Athena Swan Bronze Award in recognition of its progress and commitment to promoting gender equality. The award, granted by Advance HE, is given to institutions and departments that uphold the principles of the Athena Swan Charter, which aims to address gender inequalities and support fair and inclusive cultures in higher education.

Valid until 31 July 2030, the award acknowledges that Brunel Law School has made significant progress in tackling gender inequalities, while recognising the school’s robust policies, institutional structures, and culture necessary to systematically address gender inequality and support a fair and inclusive environment for academic and professional staff as well as students.

Brunel Law School first received the Athena Swan Bronze Award in 2019, and this latest recognition marks a continuation of its sustained commitment and progress.

Professor Jurgita Malinauskaite, Head of Brunel Law School celebrated this by saying: "This is a great achievement for Brunel Law School. It reflects our long-standing and ongoing commitment to gender equity and to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment for all students and staff."

Dr Asress Gikay (Senior Lecturer in AI, Disruptive Innovation and Law), who led the self-assessment process and coordinated the work of various sub-committees, stated: "While the award recognises our efforts and achievements, it also reminds us of our continued responsibility to do more. I am proud to have led the self-assessment and grateful to colleagues who supported the process."

Special thanks go to Dr Meryl Dickinson (Reader (Education) in Law) and Dr Adrienne Barnett (Reader in Law) for their valuable support in this achievement.

This recognition strengthens Brunel Law School’s position as a forward-looking institution that values fairness, inclusion, and opportunity for all members of its community.
